Peter Hobbes' Get the Fck Over…IT is a satirical self-help book built around a surprisingly simple premise: the author's inability, or rather his refusal, to make peace with drivers who occupy the passing lane without actually passing anyone. What begins as a familiar irritation quickly expands into a sustained comic analysis of modern self-help culture, highway etiquette, and human absurdity. Each chapter is inspired by a well-known self-help bestseller, and applies its principles to a specific category of frustrating driver. The author invents a gallery of recurring "offenders": the Minimum Viable Speeder, the Left-Lane Squatter, and many more. Rather than offering genuine personal growth, he repeatedly demonstrates why the advice fails when confronted with the irrational realities of interstate driving. The book combines observational comedy, pop-culture references, mock psychology, and exaggerated outrage. The result is a comic manifesto celebrating the universal experience of being trapped behind someone whose behavior seems inexplicable.

As a teacher who has kept teaching Monty Python’s The Holy Grail, I could not fail to love Peter Hobbes' Get the Fck Over…IT! To top it all, I am always interested in humor that relies on careful observation rather than simple punchlines. What struck me the most about this book is that the left-lane issue is almost irrelevant. It serves as a comic lens through which Hobbes explores a much broader subject: our tendency to create elaborate explanations for everyday frustrations. The humor reminded me repeatedly of the tradition of British nonsense and absurdist comedy that I love so much. There are definitely clear echoes of Monty Python here, not in direct imitation, but in the way a trivial situation is pursued with relentless seriousness until it becomes completely ridiculous. Like the famous Python sketches built around bureaucracy, etiquette, or social conventions, Hobbes takes a minor irritation and treats it as if civilization itself were at stake. I was also reminded of writers such as Jerome K. Jerome and P. G. Wodehouse, whose narrators often transform ordinary inconveniences into epic struggles through the force of their own imagination. Hobbes' narrator is similarly unreliable. He knows his reactions are disproportionate, yet continues to justify them with increasing ingenuity. The humor is undeniably American in its setting and references, yet its central theme feels universal. Anyone who has ever found themselves disproportionately annoyed by a stranger's behavior will recognise something of themselves here. I highly recommend this hilarious book!"
